Feskekörka was inaugurated on 1 November 1874 as a fish/market-hall for fish sales, and was a step in beautifying the surrounding area as earlier fish sales took place outdoors.
When the architect Victor von Gegerfelt drew inspiration from Old Norse stave churches and neo-Gothic in its appearance, the citizens of Gothenburg quickly renamed the newly built fish-hall "Feskekörka" (Fish church)
The hall has undergone several renovations over the years, in 2020 the hall closed for an extensive renovation and modernization and has recently re-opened with both the market hall sales that Feskekörka is so famous for and also several restaurants where a large focus is of course on fresh fish and seafood.
Here there are fish counters, oyster counters, wine displays, schnapps freezers, refrigerated counters/cabinets and much more. Everything manufactured by Haglund Industri and executed in stainless steel, custom-made and integrated to blend into the beautiful historic building.
